04/02/20263 – 5pmStudent Seminar: How to have hard conversations with your partnerReese Pfifer room 334This seminar explores how to navigate difficult conversations with confidence, emotional intelligence, and clarity. Drawing on research in psychology, relationships, leadership, and communication, it teaches students how to move beyond defensiveness and misunderstanding by developing skills in empathetic listening, self-awareness, and honest yet respectful expression. Rather than focusing on “winning” conversations, the seminar emphasizes building understanding, managing emotions, and creating meaningful connections across personal and professional settings.

For college-aged students, this topic is especially relevant because this stage of life is filled with new relationships, increased independence, and high-stakes communication—whether with friends, professors, coworkers, or romantic partners. Learning how to handle conflict, express needs, and listen effectively is essential for both personal growth and future career success. These skills not only improve relationships and reduce stress, but also build confidence, leadership ability, and emotional maturity—making them foundational to long-term personal and professional development.
