Greek Points

Greek Points

Greek Points were created to encourage the Greek community to foster relationships with members in different organizations other than their own. Greek Points provide the opportunity for students to do the following:

  • Participate in and attend educational opportunities, such as panel, trainings, etc.
  • Engage with students outside of their own chapter and build new relationships with one another.
  • Give back to the campus and University of Alabama community through service and philanthropic efforts.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) does not require any individual members or chapters to earn Greek points or to attend events that are qualified for Greek points. Individual chapters, at their discretion, may set expectations for their members to earn Greek points, and members can earn such points by attending events of their choosing.

Points

The official points value will be shared with the organization upon approval of the event. The Greek Programming Board holds the right to deny an event for Greek Points based on criteria listed under Event approval. Events sponsored by non-UA organizations will not be approved.

Greek Point by Event

  • OFSL Events = 3 Greek Points
  • GPB Events = 2 Greek Points
  • Co-hosted Events with Different Councils = 2 Greek Points to non-members
  • Other Events = 1 Greek Point

Fraternity and Sorority Members Receiving Points

  • If a chapter is hosting a Greek Point event by themselves, members of that chapter are not eligible to receive points for that event.
  • If a chapter is co-hosting an event within your council, members are eligible to receive 1 Greek Point.
    • Ex: Alpha Delta Pi & Delta Gamma Flower Sale
  • If a chapter is co-hosting an event with a chapter from another council, members are eligible to receive 2 Greek Points. Chapters will be limited to two events per council each semester.
    • Ex: Alpha Tau Omega & Alpha Gamma Delta Crawfish Boil

Events Approval

Events sponsored by non-UA organizations will not be approved. In order for events to be approved for Greek Points, the event must meet the following criteria:

  • Greek Points Event Approval form is filled out and submitted at least 10-14 business days before the event occurs.
  • The event is being hosted by a registered student organization, office or department at the University of Alabama.
  • The event is open to any students at the University of Alabama, without a limit on number of participants
  • The event will not in any way promote, provide, or include the consumption and/or sale of alcohol in any way. This includes events held at bars.
  • The event is easily accessible to students by being within reasonable walking distance from campus (up to 0.5 mile).
  • This hosting organization must utilize the Greek Point Event Check In Form provided by the OFSL.
  • All events must be registered and approved in the SOURCE.

For questions regarding event approval status, contact the Assistant Director of Greek Points, McClain Cameron.
